Today I return home after several days in San Francisco, visiting my mother.
What do I like to do when I'm in the Big City? Eat, of course. And I like to get a healthy dose of ethnic wonderment, especially in the Chinese grocery stores, where you can buy exotic fungi and edible shoots:
Dried black fungus, which is not only good to eat in soups and stirfry, but also thought to be medicinal:
And ready-to-cook bamboo shoots, available in bulk in the refrigerated section:
I've eaten my salty fill of ethnic flavors. Now I'm on my way back to Rural, which is salty in...different ways.
welcome home, and back to your own role as mother hen. ;o)
