Updates:
- My partner's excision wound is granulating like a champ!
- We are both sick to death of the vacuum dressing, which burps and farts like I imagine Shakespeare's Falstaff did behind the scenes.
- Our plastic surgeon was hoping to do a skin graft this week, but there is no available OR time, thanks to the usual end-of-the-year crush of elective surgeries. People want to get as much medical stuff done before the end of the year because deductibles reset at the beginning of the following year.
- Redecorating and renovating continues apace. We have chosen eco-friendly flooring for the new bathroom/pantry design, and standard countertops for the new sink counter.
- I have painted the dining room a beautiful clear, primary red, and we are going to move the dining table out of there (we eat around the coffee table most of the time) and turn it into a quirky TV-free reading room.
- I still haven't blown up at anyone. Of course, I've been avoiding conversations of any kind so this has not been difficult.
We've had so many wonderful things happen even as all this aggravation and uncertainty has been unfolding. First, the talented needle artist and wonderful human spirit we all know as Ramona Bates sent us a beautiful quilt:
What I love especially about this quilt is that it was made from leftovers from a quilt Ramona made for Vijay's daughter, so Vijay and I are now connected through fabric and stitches, which is the kind of connection which makes me smile any day of the week.
Second, Rural Doctoring has been nominated for two Medgadget blog awards! I'm on the ballot for both Best New Medical Weblog and Best Literary Medical Weblog, so I'm doubly honored. I'm so honored I can barely stand to be in the same room as myself.
Seriously, it is gratifying to have my blog recognized by the medical blogging community because it has been a great outlet for me and has brought me into contact with so many cool people, and yet the nominations make me realize my contribution to the dialogue is valuable too.
The universe is doing a good job of balancing good and bad, as it always does. Blessings be.

I agree about those nominations you received. they are well deserved. Your decorating sounds great. Can you take a picture of your dining rm. wall. I would love to see that color. I once painted our living room and hall way a sort of magenta and pinkish color. Husband almost had a stroke when he came home from work and saw it.
I love your new quilt. I just told Dr. Bates that too. The uniqueness of her quilts make them very special.
I'm glad to hear things are moving along for you and DSO. I continue to send good wishes for both of you. I miss you a lot over on twitter.

"talented needle artist and wonderful human spirit"
"I'm so honored I can barely stand to be in the same room as myself."
I love the way you play with words, Theresa.
You ought to be GIVEN the best literary medblogger award without an election/selection process!

You deserve the nominations, Theresa. I have been telling many people about your blog and those who have read it have been very impressed.
Glad to hear things are going well.
I've sent you an e-mail as we are leaving today for Europe.

You deserve both nominations! I wish you luck.
I'm glad you like the connection to Vijay. It made me smile as I was working on it. :)
