I've been following the news about the medical student accused of being the Craigslist murderer, Philip Markoff. The one thing that bothers me most about this case is this: How the HELL does a second-year medical student have time to solicit sex workers on an online classified service or gamble at casinos?
When I was a second-year, I was too busy struggling to pass pharmacology to solicit anything online, and the only gamble I was willing to take was betting my tuition against the chance of making a living in medicine.
All I can say is that Boston University needs to start working their second-years a little harder. The devil makes works for idle hands.

Very true, obviously his priorities were a little different.

I totally agree. I'm finishing up my second year of med school in Mississippi and that's the first thing I said when I heard about it. How on earth did he have time to do anything besides study? I feel guilty when I'm doing my laundry and exercising for goodness sake!

Hi ma'am I agree with you. Now-a-days these kind of hell are becoming increasingly common-not only in US,but also in my home country,India. But here the situation of Medical students is comparatively not as much worse as in US.I'm Satheesh Kumar an Undergraduate in Medicine at Kurnool town, which is in South India.I'm now doing my final year.I've my exams in September.I aspire to do Residency at U.S. But these kind of incidents are making us afraid of U.S. And simultaneously I'm happy to see people like you who are serving in Rural areas, leaving ur luxurious life.I feel pleasure to invite you to view my blog.

I hear you. 2nd year for me was insane. Insane. However maybe that guy is one of those diabolical geniuses who have perfect recall first time and a completely photographic memory. Don't trust those people I say :-)
There was a case of a med student in Sweden who had been convicted of murder several years before he got into med school. People seemed so surprised...like the process of medical school admission is supposed to weed out people like that or something. Oh wait... (Though the Bostonian medical student has only been accused, not convicted. His career is quite possibly over before it has begun though).
