This series provides an overview of hospitalist programs in a rural community. I wrote it as I was making a decision to change hospitalist jobs and was in a position to compare a number of programs side by side.
Part One: An overview of the series.
Part Two: Presents profiles of two rural hospitals. I discuss a number of common tensions between competing facilities.
Part Three: Outlines three hospitalist programs, the patients they serve, and the compensation they provide to their doctors.
Part Four: Dissects the dissolution of one hospitalist program and some of the lessons learned from the experience.
Part Five: Presents pros and cons of existing job options for me in each of the three programs.
